This carving was an early color/finish test for my Amiens Rose Window #3 carving. It also served as a way to test an idea for a bentwood frame. I ultimately abandoned the idea of framing the larger carving, but kept this little study piece. The maple used here has some nice curl to it which really pops with the hand wiped shellac finish. The carving itself was colored initially with black India ink, folllowed by a combination of graphite powder and paste wax, giving it a slightly metallic sheen.

The piece has mounting hardware on the back and hangs flush against the wall.
